If you haven't read Elantris, I'd suggest reading the introduction to the book instead. A stand alone, a story that could be told in the space of one novel. Elantris is Sanderson's first book. The map for Elantris has come a long way. I read the first book of the Mistborn trilogy (The Final Empire) before going with Elantris. Elantris is Brandon Sanderson first novel (it was released in 2005). A lot of people loved ELANTRIS, and want to know when/if I'll be writing a sequel. So, here's my official answer: One of the things I really wanted to do with ELANTRIS was make it a stand alone. This essay contains some spoilers for the book! I agree with what he's said in the post, by the way. As Sanderson explained on his blog, he wanted the book to be a one-off.
